Ducking

Jeep owners already have their own unique bond - look no further than the Jeep wave for proof of that. But a fairly new trend has emerged that started out with a small group of people but has since exploded in popularity - Jeep ducking. The idea is simple - you see a Jeep out in the wild, and you place a duck somewhere on the vehicle with the hopes that the owner will post a picture of it on social media, then do the same for another Jeep owner and keep passing the duck along.

Trending Idea

Jeep ducking has gotten so big, in fact, that the Facebook group Duck Duck Jeep has garnered over 100,000 members in just over a year. There, members post pictures of their "ducked" Jeeps and instances where they duck other Jeeps, and often include notes encouraging those folks to keep the game going or join the Facebook group.

Spreading the Culture

There are many, many other groups, Facebook and Instagram pages, and hashtags dedicated to this topic, too. The ducking trend has clearly caught on in a big way and is a fun way to spread the culture that Jeep fans already enjoy.

Different Ducks

While most of the ducks we've seen are the small rubber kind, some people dare to be different and use huge pool floats, stuffed ducks, crocheted ducks, and even real ducks. The game isn't just limited to Wranglers, either - participants are allowed to duck any kind of Jeep.

Spreading Like Wildfire

The ducking trend was actually started by Ontario, Canada resident Allison Parliament, who came up with the idea during the pandemic. She went out and placed a rubber duck on someone's Jeep, and that person got a kick out of it. Parliament posted the ducked Jeep on Facebook, and before you know it, the idea spread like wildfire.

COVID Inspired

"The duck thing was made to make people happy because COVID is terrifying for everybody," Parliament told the Taunton Daily Gazette. "I don't know a family that hasn't had it or been touched by it."

Bringing People Together

While the ducking trend has attracted its fair share of haters, Parliament is pleased that the idea has managed to bring people together during a rough time for all. "You smile and you laugh and you hear a little bit about them and their Jeep and how they became a Jeeper," she said. "It's phenomenal. It connects us in a way. It's a really good feeling to see someone happy."
