Beautiful Act

In a beautiful act of kindness, a community of tenderhearted folks in Butler County, OH teamed up together to bring a smile to the face of an Air Force veteran with ALS. Bill Hammock has owned his red CJ-7 Jeep since 1983. But when it got to the point where it needed major repairs, Hammock decided to turn in into his project car.

Unfinished Project

He began by disassembling the Jeep in his garage, in hopes of working to get it back up and running, with some upgrades. However, life had other plans, and the Jeep rebuild that Hammock had intended as a family project had to be sidelined. That was until last year, when Rocky Sexton, owner of Assured Automotive decided to lend a helping hand.

Good Folks

Several people volunteered their time and donated parts for the build. The project took thousands of hours of work by the volunteers, and the finished product has had an approximate $25,000 gone into it. And five months after this group of good folks picked up all the parts from Hammock's garage floor, the finished Jeep was back at the Hammock residence.

Bringing Happiness

“What those guys have done in such a short time. It was one of the best days I’ve ever had. It’s such a blessing in so many ways. They have become family,” Bill Hammock remarked, speaking emotionally about this beautiful gesture. Around 40 Jeep owners joined Sexton and gathered to help the Hammock family celebrate the occasion.

Back Home

Hammock, who was diagnosed with ALS three years ago, had also been battling Covid-19 recently. And he recalls times when he wasn't sure if he'd live to see the Jeep restored. Seeing it finished back at his home left him speechless. It was a day he'll never forget. Bill Hammock's son, Eli had the honor of breaking in the finished project. This amazing act will live in the memories of everyone involved, and it brings joy to the hearts of all of us who read about it, adding some much-needed positive energy to the world.
