Your correct, there will be a "wall" as the front of the bed section. The rail you see from the original bed sides will be filled in to look more like the piece of metal you can see that we have added in already, it will be continuous down the entire length of bed. We feel this will be a smooth bed side look as well.

We hope to have the inside of the bed section looking much more complete by the end of the week.

the updates are the best part for those of us who don;t have the skills or the money to make a build like this happen for ourselves. i'm the typical do-it-yourselfer that can bolt on stuff. i like seeing all of the pics of the various steps better than the shiny finished product

i would have loved it if something like this was available when i got my jku... i had to make a decision to either go back to a wrangler or pick up a tacoma. if they made a 4 dr jeep with a top and doors that could come off and a bed close in size to a taco, i would be sold.

i don;t know if it is worth doing, but could you have the "wall" separating the bed from the jeep either removable or able to fold down over the seats so the bed could extend all the way to the front seats? it would actually be pretty sweet if somehow the "wall" folded down to cover over the folded down rear seats (or atleast the area where the bottom of the seats meet the floor)
i hate that little hole when putting bigger things in the back of my jku

i guess another option could be one of those taco bed extenders...

 

To further address your question that MB touched on, we have taken the strip off the top of the tub to smooth out the box and you can see the before and after in the pictures below.





The box will be smoothed out to have a cleaner look and we will not be running the typical soft top so the hook style lip is not needed.





The hard top is starting to take shape as well, but lots more work to get it looking like we would like. Just a quick update showing today's progress.

 

This is a sweet build im loving watching this.....When I saw this set of pics I couldnt help but thinking that a matching trailer made from a jk Rearend would look totally kick ass behind pulled behind this thing!!!

As promised, the updates are coming in...

The wall behind the rear seats was the next step in closing in the back of the Jeep. We have contoured the wall to fit the shape of the hard top, and it's coming together quite nicely.

Fenders and inner box work will likely wait until after the suspension work has been done. We want to know how much upwards travel is going to be needed before installing the inner fenders.









Looking good at this point. Some nice welds, and everything is getting closed in.







Hard top can now be reworked off the Jeep to get it filled in and smoothed out.

i just LOVE IT...
i have a question... how is the process of putting the hard top back together after you have cut all that plastic? how do you make it look like it was never cut? is there something like a plastic welder or something?
i'm guessing you'll have to bed-line it after smoothing, right?
