While we are at the diff shop can we add in some diff lockers? Ive been watching some youtube videos and it looks like Jeeps can get stranded pretty easily with an open diff. I'd look a prize dick if I try and go off-road in my truck and the wheel with least traction spins and I have to winch myself out!!

Can you fit aftermarket diff lockers to the standard diff? Does it make sense to do it while they are out getting the crown wheel/pinion changed?

Honestly with what you're going to use your jeep for, lockers aren't really needed. Unless you're planning on hitting the rocks or some serious off-road, lockers would be a large expense for very little benefit. You'd be looking at around $2000-$2500 for the lockers and an on-board air setup.

My $0.02. Your money would be better spent elsewhere on the build.

True but if the diffs are already open it will be cheaper to install now. Selectable lockers are probably over 1k whether electric or air. Then there are systems like Detroit true trac that I've had good experiences with and is cheapish

Do you think in the snow or sand its pretty easy to get stuck with open diffs? I'm not sure how important this is but I really don't want to get stuck with a wheel spinning? Its a difficult call to make without any experience of driving a jeep in those conditions.

Honestly i would stick with and open diff if i were you. The reason being is if your just gonna play is sand and snow then you should be fine by just kicking it into 4hi or 4lo. I know bc i very rarely use my lockers and have never once used them in sand. But just like everyone else, we have the right to our own opinion. Cheers

I would imagine with 40s and a D30 your going to wind up snapping something or destroying gears pretty quickly if you start locking.

Yep. This was mentioned a few times pretty early on in this thread. There was also a request to post pics of the resulting damage.

IF you (3chainz) are seriously looking at spending time offroad, consider putting the locker/gear/truss/sleeve/alloy shaft money toward a beefier axle. (or axles?)

This link was posted earlier in this thread, but in case you ignored it, it has a pretty good comparison of a d30 upgrade vs replacing with a pr44. A front 60 would obviously be more expensive, but you should still find the information useful.

So been watching this thread from the side. At times entertaining for sure.

Del Rey and 3chainz….Kudos to both of you for sticking it out here. Takes a lot of guts to stand up for yourself even as you're being badgered. Can't say I totally understand this build, but it isn't for me to judge. To each and every his own. And, it looks better than I thought it would ( quite honest I thought it was going to be godawful). Maybe you could post pics from time in whatever it is you're doing in it. It's a Jeep, and I'll wave to you every time.

Update picked up the jeep from Hooper Rear Ends in Sun Valley, CA. There the best when it comes to rear ends. The had quite a few jeeps there and the have been a family owned business for over 30 years.

Diff covers installed
Axel selves installed on the front Dana 30
5:13 Front and Rear gears installed
Super tuner reprogrammed used to flash the BCM for the new tires size and the gearing.

There was also a feature to electronically lock the axles for use under 30 miles an hour is you get stuck. Pretty cool reprogrammer.

Next step lest work on some audio

I'm got a bunch of photos got to find some time to post them up.

And some videos so we'll get them up soon

Stay Tuned!
