I repair my cracks and keep going the windshield is prone to hits with the angle and no deflection . That and the jeep heater could roast hot dogs it works so well so change in temperature directly effects mt.
Glass is re.axed when cool gets tight when hot a crack just releives stores in the glass that's why it changes direction and follows the stress.....
The films will do a little to absorb the small Stone breaks but once ts hit it won't stop it from crack I g because it won't hold the glass stationary it will still expand and contract as well as flex in the lunch seam the urethane has a no d strength of #500 psi so there's not any real room for the glass to expand and twist it loads up....

My '09 picked up a crack almost dead center within the first year. I have never done anything about it, and it's spread a little. I have wondered if it was something with that windshield that it's prone to crack there. I never heard or saw whatever made the crack. As far as I'm concerned, it just appeared one day.

i did. That's exactly how I milked my windshield before finally calling in the claim. Honestly? My repaired ding/crack that I repaired, looked better than the one repaired by safelite. Same little spider looking crack. The $13 fix from the auto store removed the spider leg looking blemish. The safelite process did not. Worth it IMO. Reduces claims, less attention from the insurance pricks.
