I,ve been reading this thread and the thought that my Rubi might have 3.73's instead of the 4.10's was beginning to piss me off,Mine is a manual but I did call the dealership and gave them my VIN# and they did verify mine is 4.10's I bought a RUBICON not a Sport with Rubi stickers

A Corvette I owned, many years ago, early 90s, would not allow you to shift from first to second if your RPM and speed where within some relationship. You could go from first to third. I believe that was an early attempt at improving across the board gas mileage for the brand. The 3.73 vs 4.10 gearing may have some relationship to CAFE standards or it could just be that they are $1 cheaper to build. Only Chrysler Jeep really knows.
Or more likely, dealers get told how many units they have to buy from the factory. It is in their best interest to spec them out in such a way that they will get sold quickly. Each car that sits on their lot costs them "rent" every month. That is called "floor plan." If the 3.73 is cheaper, and most people buy automatic transmissions well that may have a bigger play then anything else. Automatic w/ 3.73 gearing. People will buy them and the price is $295 less then the one with 4.10 gearing.

I'm on my fourth JK now, my last rubi had 4.10, the newest has 3.73 and I actually prefer the 3.73 (auto) now after wheeling it several times. I found now real difference when both were in 4lo range. I have several friends that have 35's with the 3.73 and have no complaints at all (and the 3.6L to be clear). IMHO, it's about driving style and proper lines taken, not just relying on gear ratio to get you over the rock or up the trail.
That said, I didn't know they gave the autos the 3.73 when I got my newest, or I probably would have held out for the 4.10.
