I switched to 5-30 regular oil (Valvoline) from 5-20 synthetic and my consumption has slowed considerably. Went from burning 2.5-3 qts in 3,000 miles to about 1.25 qts. Never have had any discernible engine noise other than a light tick at start up. Bought it new.

I remember back, I think Ripp said they had issues with synthetic oil of various weights. They switched to castrol gtx, not certain the weight, and their issues went away. Think they had noises and consumption.

I really wonder if synthetic doesn't work well with this motor.

I'm going to change my oil this weekend, I may try dinosaur oil and report back my results, I've been using synthetic 5W-30 so far and haven't done a great job of keeping track of total oil used (I'll do a better job this change), but I'd estimate around 1-1.5 quarts was what it burned in the last 3000 miles. 2008 JK for the record.

I switched to mobil 1, mobil 1 filter and 1 qt of lucas synthetic stabilizer. Noise got better consumption stopped. Then about halfway through last oil change interval noise came back, consumption did not. I decided it was best to be done with the 08' Bought a 2012..... p.s my 08' had 18k miles on it.... Chrysler and multiple dealerships sent me pakcing, could have cared less

I had a small ticking noise as well and use Mobil 1 full syn (5-20), but have noticed a huge difference almost non-existent after switching to a Bosch oil filter...

In all honesty, the jeep has a great trade in value. If I wouldn't have been comfortable swapping my engine myself I could have been in a 2012 for a very fair price. They were eager to take mine in trade in.

I have a 2007 Rubi. I used to burn close to 1qt every 1000-1500 miles. For some reason at 85,000 it stopped burning oil. I now very rarely add oil in between changes and it's running strong with just over 95k.

That's crazy? Did you change anything like oil weight or did it literally just stop?

I wonder what oil and weight Ripp recommends to their customers to use? Great post thanks

It just stopped. My guess is the engine internals finally "gummed" up enough to stop the oil burn. It was strange and at first I though something major was wrong. But, at each oil change (every 3500) I pull out almost the full 6qt 's that i put in from the last time. I would say it's burning less than a 1/2 qt between oil changes now.

I have been using the 5w-20 from Mobile 1 since 30,000 miles.
