Default White paint stain

In the process of relocating the rear license plate to the spare tire I removed the stock license plate bracket. On my white JK there is a black stain in several areas where the bracket made contact when it was mounted. I did the normal clean up in the area, but the staining remains. I'm fairly certain that others who have done this mod have run into the same problem. What have you done to remove these stains?

I had to look up where Quitman, TX was! Wasn't expecting it to be just to the east. Anyhow, welcome to JKF. Are the marks places the bracket actually scratched off the pain, or just remnants of black plastic marks? Got a picture? Almost seems like something a little Meguiar's DACP (dual-action cleaner polish) should be able to take care of.

No scratches, just the black outline. Initially I cleaned it up with Windex Glass Plus and it removed most of it. What's left is kind of a dark gray color. Thanks.

Sounding like you're gonna have to get some rubbing compound out and wheel it out. Rubbing compound should be able to remove it, where that will usually leave behind some hazzy scratches on the clear coat and then you need to use some polish, follow by caruba wax to get the clear coat shine back.

Try the meguiars clay bar kit before you put any compound on it. The clay bar is the consistency of hard silly putty and will lift anything out of the clearcoat without scratching it. Ive used it to take all sorts of paint marks and such off vehicles. Mothers makes a clay bar kit too. The meguiars is better imo.
