I'm considering royal purple. I saw a test in which it was second best in wear protection. I don't recall who is #1. Does anyone have any experience with Royal purple motor oil for the Pentastar 3.6?

Royal Purple isn't bad but if you do a lot of research on independent tests, you will find it is not what they hype it to be. In general from all test results I have read, it seems that the top three in all around testing are Mobile 1 synthetic, Amsoil and Penzoil synthetic seem to be at or near the top of most or all categories evaluated. With large scale tests, some oils may score the top spot in one category but fair worse in all the others. Of course the advertiser will always push that particular test result.

I just tried RP for the first time in my 2012. It has over 45,000 miles on it. Since switching I have run abut two tanks of gas through it. My MPG jumped from 17.5 to 18.5, but I require many more tanks to say oil was a factor. I log every single fill up since new and will be able to look at the data over time. I think the raise in MPG is more likely related to the warmer temperatures we have been seeing in NJ. Our jeeps like warmer temps. I bought the RP at Walmart. Cost was about $10 more for the oil change compared with Penzoil synthetic. I have used penzoil mostly in the jeep and am happy with that. Just decided to try something different.

What's the opinions on the Bosch filter for the 3.6? I'll be changing the oil in my '12 for the first time in a couple weeks and plan on penzoil synthetic 5w-30

I've been happy with penzoil 5-30 in my 2012. Yes, my last oil change done at 45,000 miles was with royal purple, but having put about 1000 miles on since then I can honestly say I think there is no difference. I'll go back to penzoil next change. I've been doing synthetic changes every 5000 miles. My jeep still runs like new.

Rob, I think I asked you before so forgive me if I've forgotten but what is your OCI telling you? Or do you just reset it each change and never wait for the warning?

I never pay attention to the warning and I don't remember to reset it when I change the oil. Now at about 46,000 miles, I think the change oil message has only come on about 4 times. It's the first vehicle I've ever had with an OCI so I guess I'm trained to not pay attention to OCI after 30yrs of driving and doing my own maintenance.

I get 10w30 of what's ever on sale, name brand of course, as fast as my motor burns oil I can't afford to go high end oil.

I put an oil stabilizer in last change and still went through about 1.5qts in 2k miles.
