What does the air dam do?
#31
My issue isn't really with the air dam so pardon my hijack... I am considering cutting off the sheet metal cross member that it attaches to. It is so weak that there's no way it is structural and I keep dragging it over shelfs and steps ups in the rocks..removing it would greatly improve my approach angle.Has anyone else here done this?

The air dam does improve highway fuel mileage... Yet, I removed before the snow season after partially pulling it off in deep snow wheeling last winter. Like last year, when I switch from the hardtop to the soft top, I'll reinstall the air dam.

I don't buy the idea that removing it would cause hood flutter, but it certainly increases fuel mileage. Not much, but it does. That is common knowledge, smooth up the underbelly for better mileage. On a heavy vehicle like the wrangler, the effects are going to be a lot less, but they are still there. The airdam is Jeeps minimum effort to do so.
