First pic you can see the metal on metal contact and the second pic you can see what it's contacting. Not sure what is broke but the piece in the first pic moves forward and aft. Only reason o found this was that I could here something clanking around when driving. Thought it was a nail or bolt or rock that I picked up but not so lucky. Any help? I know I'll have to take it into the dealer to get fixed AFTER I clean her a bit. Hoping warranty will cover it.....

Looks to me like your u-joint is so shot that your shaft moves around enough to contact the bolt heads. Get it fixed before you ruin the shafts and have to buy those too.

X2 on it being a bad Ujoint. Most likely the dealer will void the warranty on the joint because of your mods. Look at the cost of cromo shafts before you take it to the dealer. If the dealer wants to charge you, get the work quoted first and it will probably be around the price of upgradded shafts. wayoflife has a good writeup of how to replace the shafts on his site if you want to see if you are up to doing it yourself. Only custom tool is a socket that is larger than most have in the standard set.

So am I looking at possibly having to buy just u joints or axle shafts or both? If I can get away with just I joint that would be better $$$. I'd love to upgrade to cromo shafts but don't exactly have the dough for that at this point

Just the joint, but labor will be less to swap the shaft (if you buy a full assembly) so it tends to be similar enough to just pull the triger... Unless you can get some takeoffs in your area, then just swap a full stock assembly.

U-Joints are a pretty easy do if yourself fix too if the holes aren't elongated. There are several good writeups on the web

Appreciate the help fellas. I went back out to the jeep once I got a little more time and def narrowed it down to the u joint. I'm still leaning towards upgrading the shafts though
