water leak

You're not going to get anything out of it but a headache. Maybe some bonding with all the others in the same boat. And maybe some resentment towards the Manufacturer.

I got my leak "fixed" today too. My leak gave me water/moisture under/on the carpet behind the driver seat. The dealer said there wasn't a leak and it was my windows. Said that the window handles were vibrating while driving causing the windows to open slightly and let water and moisture in. Not sure if I really believe that but they tested the rest of the top for "hours" under their water machine. The fix was to reposition the handle so that the vibration of the vehicle didn't cause them to open. Guess I will wait and see.

I have a 2010 and I took it on a road trip the other weekend in the rain. Came home and noticed the water marks on the sub box a few days later. Glad I am not the only one, but kinda choked at the same time about the commonality of this problem and the lack of resolution by Jeep. I don't wanna deal with warranty issues 3 weeks into ownership. I had leaks in my CJ and YJ as well.. so I half expected everyone to have responded to a leak question with "it's a Jeep, expect it" .. I appreciate forums that respond with useful information instead of sarcastic comments.. (although sarcasm is a highly under-rated quality in humour).

Finally, PROBLEM SOLVED! I've had my leak examined at the dealers body shop three times before, they have replaced every gasket along the rear hardtop/tailgate, but with no luck. Look closely at the seal on the rear glass and at the edges, Chrysler uses a foam (which acts like a SPONGE) to fill the gaps at the ends of the seal. When/if those foam sponges get wet, they wick water down the tailgate edges and on to the subwoofer, then eventually to the floor where the jack is stored.
My dealer acknowledged the junk Chrysler used and the flaw by design. If the planets arn't in perfect alignment, and if it rains long and hard enough, those sponges will get wet to the point of saturation, then leak. The fix? Total replacement with a superior product. My dealer ordered replacement gasket material from a different supplier and made his own tailgate glass seal. The results are PERFECTION! With flooding all around New England, my JK was bone dry in three days of constant rain.
I don't have part numbers for you, but I can encourage everyone to push till the problem is fixed. I'm keeping the JK for life, so I can't have unnecessary rust caused by dumb leaks. There is a solution, even if it isn't by Chrysler design!
Best of luck everyone,
Nathan

I was cleaning my glove box out the other day and noticed my papers were damp. Didn't know where the moisture came from but after it rained I watched water pooling up on my dashboard. My 08 is going back this Thursday to be looked at. We'll see what happens.
