I am hoping its steam but not sure - may be smoke from coolant leak.

Make sure its not your timing cover leaking. there's a TSB on this. I had it

So checked under the hood and no sign of leaks from rad (fluid level same as last time I checked) and engine looks good (not head leaks from TSB).

Just for the heck of it, and in light of the problems with smoke and fires that we think might possibly be related to an overheated transmission problem, why don't you pull the codes from your computer as WoL wrote about here. See if you get the P0218 code like many of us.

Did it say "none", or did it not return anything? Unless it said "none" or gave you a code, you didn't do it correctly. Took me a couple times to figure out how to do it correctly - keep the key pressed in the entire time and don't turn it all the way off.

I get this too, its almost odourless, and usually in the rain or out in the snow.

I'm pretty sure its steam myself, but what do I know?
