Trouble hitting highway speeds...
Ive had the top and doors off the jeep lately and just went on the highway to get to the city and noticed that on flat stretches of road i can be in 6th gear and cruise fine but even on the slightest incline i have to go to 5th or even 4th just to keep 65mph. I have an 08 X unlimited with the 6 spd manual and just had new 265/70/17 Silent Armors put on about 2 weeks ago. I assume its normal because the aerodynamics suck in the first place but having no top or doors just throws it out the door (or lack there of). So is it normal or something i should be concerned about?
BTW this is my first jeep so im pretty new to it
Cheers

Sounds like the curse of the 3.21's. I carry that same curse, and I all but left my Jeep in Wisconsin this weekend b/c the little hills and the a/c make it impossible to keep it in any gear for more than 2 seconds...needless to say the "4.56 fund" has been created in direct response to this travesty. All I can say is...

Yep, roof & doors off at highway speeds causes a lot of drag so nothing to worry about; even driving at highway speeds with just the two front windows down can make a noticable difference to performance.

Yeah, with 3.21s & 32" or bigger tyres I think you could be right. Drove a 6-speed with 3.73 gears (tow pack equipped) a while back & it felt far more responsive & 6th was actually useable on hills at 70MPH.
