He said the material can dry up and break off and get in the system. An unlikely situation but not good if it happens.

I suppose that's true if too much is used. When I took my pan off, there was no evidence any RTV had squeezed into the pan.
I'll look closely when I remove my pan again for scheduled service.

I would imagine that any particles would be trapped by the filter. RTV seems the way to go but I am no expert, so I followed that guy's advice. Seems most go with RTV though.
