Default Tranny Rattle

I just picked up my jeep yesterday!!!! However, I am already annoyed with a rattle that it has. It comes from the stick. If I even just rest my hand on the shift nob it will stop, but if I'm not touching it, the thing makes a ton of racket. Has anybody experienced/fixed this?

there are 2 bushings inside the shift housing holding the shifter into position.
they get a little warn and cause the rattle common problem/
pop the shifter out and replace the side bushings and walla rattle solved
good luck

Mine just started doing this about a week ago as well (~10k miles). Mostly it rattles only when I am really on the gas, like accelerating or climbing a hill, and if I just touch my finger to the cap on the top, it stops.
Glad to hear you fixed it so easily.

I used some double sided sticky tape and it has worked for over 13k miles.

I got excited when I read it might be the cap however, it's not. While i was out driving today, I put my finger over the cap, and nothing. Then i tried just holding the stick a little closer to the shift boot. That stopped it, so it can't be the cap. It seems to happen mostly on acceleration, the whole stick starts to shake back and forth pretty bad. It's a light shake, but it moves the stick pretty far in every direction.

the rattle comes and goes. sometimes it's fine, then for some reason, one wrong shift then it starts up again. playing with the cap on the shift knob or banging on the knob sometimes works, then it comes back again a few days later.

Same problem... started at 1500 miles.

Whats the best way to get the cap off to put the double sided tape underneath? I'm tempted to just say something next time I'm at the dealer.
