I'm sorry, but I have to believe that 3500kg is a misprint. Someone at Chrysler made a mistake when making the documents. I've towed close to 5000 pounds. No way in the world could I consider 7700 pounds

OK Chad, you suck... lol I just drove a new 2014 Rubicon and I really liked it. I was tempted to drive the new GC with the 3.0L Diesel, but a little voice told me not to do it...

I honestly cannot stop laughing

Be sure to send us pictures of your new 2014 JKU.

Dunno. All the towing specs websites and caravan sites all show the same info.

What's the law in the states? Are brakes a must for the trailer?
my JK is allowed to tow the 3330kg, but only if the trailer is equipped with brakes. Without brakes, the trailer must be less than 750kg. That would be near the weight you've in the states.

Most states mirror the federal commercial vehicle laws when it comes to trailers. Any trailer with a GVWR greater then 3000lbs needs to have electric brakes and a brakeaway emergency brake system

Yep, think that's standard throughout the EU.

Then it's not that different. In Europe an emergency brake system is always needed. The bigger trailers have brakes.

And the JK here with the Diesel engine is rated more than the petrol.

The 3.0 Grand is rated at 3500kgs, too. Even the KJ was rated at 2800kgs with the CRD-engine.

I have the German Brochure, it is rated for 3500Kg with trailer brakes, it's not a misprint. All the Euro Jeeps have a higher tow rating. We're being tooled by Jeep, think about it, my old Grand Wagoneer had 172 hp and comparable torque to our V-6s and it was rated to pull 7k lbs. I know the 1/2 ton frame of my JKU and my hitch will pull 7k lbs, but I'd never go to Cali, since the Chips are stuck on the rated GVWR. Fortunately, Texas has a much more liberal vehicle towing code provision. Basically, if it has trailer brakes and you want to pull it, if the trailer axles are not over wt, go for it.

Also, can you look on the official jeep website in German and see if they list the tow rating for 2014 jku's?
Rob, I purchased a Smittybuilt bumper with hitch, it is rated at 9k lbs for pulling with 900 tongue. It bolts to the four hitch bolt holes on the rear cross member and also bolts to the side frame rails as well. I can send pix tomorrow if you wish. Cheers
