Question Tool For Removing Screws (To Take Top Off)?

Hi Everybody,

Might be a silly question - but I thought I would ask for the heck of it. In the 2+ years I have owned my 08 Rubi Unlimited I have never taken any of my three piece top off of my (just nothing that has crossed my mind up til this point - personally). However now that my son is older, and would enjoy that sort of thing more - I plan to change that this summer, and am looking to start taking the top off and enjoying the freedom and open air the way a Wrangler was made to be used.

So looking at the screws that need to be removed before the top can come off - I am wondering if there is a recommended tool that I should look into buying thats best for removing these screws? Or should I just head to my tool box and grab the correct sized allen wrench, and just use that.

I guess I am just making sure there is no after market part out there that you all recommend that is different, or easier / faster to use......than the normal tools I probably already have in my normal tool box?

Thanks for your help!

no special tool...just a Torx wrench (star). I think T30, T40 and T50 will cover you for soft top, hard top, and door removal.

I just got a small ratchet to designate to my tool box in the Jeep.

Have fun....you'll wonder why it took you this long to get that top off!!

Go to the hardware store and pickup a set of torx bits. Jeeps best tool! Pretty much a must have with a jeep.

Definitely get the Torx set, they are used all over on Jeeps of all years.

your jeep manual will guide you too....not difficult to do....you will enjoy your JK so much more with the roof off.... you will need two people to take off the rear part.

REMEMBER when reinstalling your rear roof section snug the #40 Torx bolts with a T40 screwdriver to JUST TIGHT. Don't take a ratchet and T40 bit and overtighten the bolts, it will crack the top material under the bolt heads.
