You'll notice that questions like these draw Rubi owner's out like crazy. All so they can beat their chest.

They are hydro shocks...oil filled. Tend to be a lot less effective than rubi ones ( nitro )
You have to remember that they are mass supplied to Chrysler, so a tuned shock isnt what your going to get. Just enough to stop it hopping all over the road when you hit a pothole.

i can attest the X shocks are not good enough once you upgrade to a larger and heavier wheel and tire combo.

Stock shocks on any new vehicle are normally pieces of junk. The automotive company usually spends a whole 7.00 for the set. The shocks are one of the very first upgrades I do to any vehicle I get. As far as the Rubicon shocks, I wouldn't know how good those are. Never owned one.

Stock shocks are junk. If you have no lift try the edelbrock ias or bilstein HD

My unlimited x has a little over 20k miles on it and the stock shocks are really starting to suck. I have a set of Rubi shocks that a generous forum member gave me which I'm thinking of putting on instead. If those work better than the stock x shocks, I'll keep them. But if not then I may look at getting aftermarket ones.

I'd really like to put the old man emu ones on it. My 265/75R16 BFG AT's are far from wearing down. So I won't be going to a bigger tire anytime soon (at least another 2 years). What I'm wondering is could i buy the old man emu 2" lift kit but only use the shocks from it while I have the smaller tires? Then when it's time to get new tires I'll buy bigger ones and then put on the rest of the lift kit. Would there be any reason not to do this since the Jeep has the stock bump stops to prevent overextension?
