A friend of mine has a 1906 Stanley Steamer. It has the original rims.

To give the OP credit, I think I know what he may be getting at. Aluminum rims tend to suffer more from cracks & fractures when placed under stress than steel rims, so maybe he wanted to know how they stand up to offroad abuse.

I've hit curbs at 50MPH and blown tires (young & foolish motorhead days in old cars with bad 70's suspension & brakes but big V8 motors) on steel rims without even denting them, but cracked modern alloy rims with low profile tires by just hitting potholes at moderate speed; probably why most aftermarket offroad rims are steel?
