stock air filter

If you wheel and you don't have a snorkle I would highly recomend the K&N filter. I sucked mud into the air box. A lot of mud. The filter was packed in mud. Not one spec of dirt made it through the filter. The oil soaked filter helps keep the moisture out for a little while anyway. My nose took a quick dip under. If I had a paper filter I would have been stuck for the rest of the day. I was able to take the K&N out bang out the dirt/ scoop out the majority of the mud and keep going. Got home/ wash it out/ oil it/ stand about 30 mins/ back in the jeep.

Whats the K & N, about $50? If so, then yes I would have to agree, might as well get the K & N if the stock ones are $20!!!

Not to start a huge air filter war, but I have used green drop in filters http://www.greenfilterusa.com/ and have had real good luck with them. They run a little more than the K&Ns. Similar design, but a little better engineered IMO.

For those that want to go to a K&N or similar intake system with a cone type filter but are concerned that they do not filter out small particles as well as the stock paper filters,, not a problem.. on the road for everyday use the K&Ns are fine, and off road in dirty/dusty conditions just do the same thing dirt bike racers do and get MSR large filter skins. $18 for 3. They slip over the filter and can also be cleaned, re-oiled and re-used..
I have a K&N for the stock box and unfortunately have not found any skins that will go over the stock square filter.. Still looking.
