I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips or knows how to remove the stock 6 speed shift knob on a 2008 model i was hoping to replace it with a browning shift knob or something like that

If it's the same as 2012, which I think it is, just pull up on it.

I used a crescent wrench and a hammer and banged up on the knob. If your worried about damage just wrap it in a cloth

Pull as hard as you can and watch your head put it in second for best pulling ability

I tried everything! The strap wrenches, the youtube video that shows popping the top part off (don't do this btw) the cresent wrench and hammer and couldn't get any of them to work! What worked for me was I would twist the crap out of the knob as I was driving and it eventually loosened up and one day while twisting and pulling it down into 4th gear it popped off! after that I could get it on and off pretty easy.

Good luck getting that thing to work for you!

Have you tried yelling at it????
Some other ways I haven't tried but would try if I was in your shoes would be
1) heat it up and pull like hell
2) oil filer wrench. It's like a thick rubber band wrench you could try really twisting and pulling it.
3) cut it. Hack saw, grinder ect. Cut a slit in it so you can get leverage.

Please keep us posted on what works.

To be clear, the shift and transfer case knobs are keyed. They don't rotate. Well, unless you break them, I guess. You pull them straight up to remove.

Right I definitely agree with you however mine had epoxy on them and you can maybe create a gap by breaking up the epoxy.
