Default squeaking dash noise....CURED!!!!!

found it ..fixed it !
Parts you will need: torx to take off cowl vent
some drawer /shelf liner rubberish stuff cut 3/4"x2"
1 unbolt your winshield wiper arms and remove

2 untorx four screws holding cowl down

3 remove four black push-in "pegs"
4 remove cowl ( while off you may want to put some "accumat" or other deadener, i use roof fix stuff from lowes or home depot)[IMG][/IMG]

5 once off you will see the culprit of the squeak
[IMG][/IMG]

6 cut your strips of stuff you can use velvet too
[IMG][/IMG]
7 sqeeze tab and pull out of firewall, place strip of stuff over tab and push back in [IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
8 while your there do the other one too....[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
9 press in the pegs, put cowl back on torx, and 4 more pegs and you are done !!!! ooopps put wiper arms back on and bolt down.

Just did this tonight and it cured the rattle by about 98%. I should have used a little more material on the 2 feet that stick in the fire wall. This is a huge improvement. I have been listening to this for 9000 miles.

This may be the cure for the rattle I have. It sounds like it comes from behind the dashboard right above the radio. I'll dig into it this weekend.

Thanks for the write-up.

Got another rattle to add and wonder if anyone else has come across it - seems to be from the glove box area but isnt the glovebox itself - Jeep dealer had a look and admit there is one but can't find it (why am I not surprised!) so just said tough and live with it. Anyone else got this?

It could be the duct work for on the passenger side that exits at the floor. Mine was loose. You need to reach up there and see if it that is it. It cured my problem. It came loose again the other day and the rattle is back. But at least now I know how to fix it.
