Softtop vs. Hardtop
#11
Yeah, I am looking to do a soft top trade for my hard top(2dr). The hard top is GREAT in the winter and the road noise is minimal. But I like the idea of a soft top for ease of use in the summer.

I love being able to put the top on and take it off whenever I want with the soft top. I've rode in a hard top and they are definitely quieter. The extra noise is worth the freedom that the soft top gives me.

My last jeep was a soft top and I really loved it. I loved knowing that I could take that baby down anytime I wanted and be riding in classic Jeep style. Only thing though is that I hardly ever took it all the way down. I took the upper door halves out a lot, and rolled up the rear window, but I think I only had the top all the way down just a few times. Maybe I missed out, but it was always in the back of my mind that if I went out in the hills with my top down that everything inside my jeep was going to be caked in mud or dust or water or all of the above. My current Jeep is a hard top and I am really loving it. So much quieter, security is much more reassuring, and if I really feel like it I can take out the roof panels and have that open air experience.
I say take the deal, and like everyone said, the soft tops are way cheaper to buy. And Like someone else said, Both is best. Having every option is always the best option.

Do the trade and then buy a soft top off Craigslist or here like I did for $540. It's a win-win for you. I like having both tops.

I had to have both, hard for winter and soft for summer. What everyone says is true, hard top keeps the noise down but harder to take off, more expensive if damaged. Soft top is louder, easier to take down, cheaper to repair/replace but can also be damn cold in winter (up north).
