Thanks for the info Lecia12! Quick question, how do you attach the knob to the bolt?

I am sure McMaster-Carr would have these also but here are the Fastenal part numbers to make it easy.

Default An alternative: ACE Hardware

Not wanting to wait around for someone to place a special order for me, I decided to to ACE Hardware to see what they have. ACE Hardware, for me, is like the RadioShack of hardware stores. They have all the odd "hard to find" stuff.

For the knob I used the Fluted Metric Knob #MKF-8. Cost $3.73
For the shaft I used a Stainless threaded rod M8-1.25-100. Cost $1.30

The rod is a Metric 8 with a thread pitch of 1.25. Length is 100mm. This is for the longer one. The shorter one, use a length of 50mm.

From the pics posted by kesmith8, it shows the length in inches. Using a magic marker, I marked the long rod at 3-1/4". The short rod 1-3/8"

I used some Blue Loc-Tite on the top of the threads and screwed the Fluted Metric Knob to the desired length. The Loc-Tite was probably enough to secure the knob to the rod, but I wanted some "extra strength". So, once cured, I mixed some epoxy and filled in the top of the knob.

I let it cure for 12 hours and it was ready for installation.

Hint: I cut an "X" on the top of a plastic party cup and shoved the knob and rod down into it, which allowed it to hold it steady and flat, so the epoxy can cure.

Here is the finished product. I only made the long ones, as that was the set I was missing. The knob is a bit smaller in diameter and is slightly thicker, but it works GREAT. The optional epoxy should hold it ROCK solid, and not separate or crack, like the factory knobs during extreme cold or heat.

The knobs are a pretty tight fit. I carefully put the knob on the top of the socket head and used a smaller rubber mallet to seat it.

Ditto here. Bought a Dualtop softtop from someone. No brackets nor surround screws. I had to get the brackets from Quadratec and off to ACE Hardware to buy parts for the knobs. My ACE didn't have the Fluted Metric Knob, but they did have a blank setscrew knob so I bought 4 for $3.61 ea. and 4 Stainless threaded rod M8-1.25-100 for $1.40 ea. I drilled out the knobs for the rods, epoxyed and set screwed them in. I then screwed on a nut and cut 4 threads off and turned down the last 2 threads, then unscrewed the nut and voila, 4 cheap surround screws for $21!
