Default Soft Top Boot?

I know this sounds elementary, but I have questions on securing the soft top when it is down. I have watched the video on the website and folowed in the manual, but I do not see where it states to use a boot.

So my question is a boot necessary/recommended when the soft top is folded down? Will damager occur if a boot is not used? Is there any speed limitation?

Thanks and I apoligize for the noob question.

I believe the boot is just an accessory. I don't have one, just tie mine down with those velcro straps.

yep, I think the boot just makes it look "cleaner" or "pretty"......and it is another way for Mopar to make a few bucks off of us

my top has more bird crap on the inside than the outside. when the top is up you can clearly see the pleats with white bird crap.

as mentioned, the boot is not necessary--but it does keep the top clean if you keep the top mounted when on a dusty trail. the downside is that the boot is a pain to put on--but once on, you will definitely appreciate the dirt it keeps out of your top's interior. i had the bestop boot on my tj and found that the hassle of putting it on was well worth it. i have not bought the mopar boot for my jk yet (too much $$ for now!) so i have been using the boot the top was shipped with. i know members on this site have recommended throwing it away as soon as the top is installed, but i kept it and have been using it for about 6 months now -- and it is holding up fine. the other option you have is to completely remove the top before hitting the trails--its not as hard or as inconvenient as you might think--especially when considering how much time you will spend cleaning out the inside of the top when you get back.

Default Yeah, but...

Unfortunately, you can't really use the boot if you want to use a tonneau (duster, to some)...I think the tonneau looks much cleaner and better, and secures stuff in the back more securely (at least stuff is outta sight)...I installed quick disconnects on the bows to ditch the whole top when it's off.
And if you want to hook up a wind breaker behind the seats, the tonneau gives you a bottom channel to hook into.
