Default Side Airbags

Can they be added on? It's a $300 option when you order the car. Would the dealers put them on if it's not equiped w/them or is that something that they won't even think about touching?

Lol well yeah, but I was wandering if anyone has tried to have it added on after the car was purchased.

Everytime you call a Jeep a car God kills a kitten

and I agree I dont think it would be cost effective, besides having to put the bags in the seats there would be all the sensors that would have to be added...I have some doubt a dealer would even do it because of liability but who knows

example of ordering from factory dual top option is 1595.... order one without hard top and the top will cost you 1800-2100 from dealer and then another cpl hundred for the wiring

I have these on mine. They are powered through a wiring harness underneath the seat. I am willing to bet, just like any other Jeep made in the past, the same basic wiring harness is used for all of them. The connection is probably somewhere under the dash. To add after purchase, you would have to purchase the seats with the airbags in them, the wiring to the harness under the seat, and the harness that goes under the seat and connects to the seat. They are cool as far as safety and a $2 decrease in insurance a month. However, I was very limited on the neoprene seat covers I could buy due to them. Mopar does not even make any for them.

My concern about them is..........if I am offroad and bounce the side of the jeep off a tree or something, will they go off? If they do, I not only have to fix my jeep, but REPLACE my seat too. My $.02.

I have seen some wire's & harness's under my front seats. I know they're for the seatbelt & passenger frontal airbag but I'm not sure if it's just a plug n go thing to add side airbags. Also there's gotta be some sort of wire tube (like the front) that runs on the side of the Jeep that if ou get hit on the side it breaks and the side airbags activate.

Dealer should be able to answer this definitively. I would think that the cost would be very high as an add on.

haha I wish they would. I asked the dealer about this and they said they don't do it because of liability issues and I don't have any mechanical knowledge to undertake a project like that....
