Here's my '09 with the stock Silent Armor 255/75R17s that it came new with (they're still a bit muddy from wheeling last week; rest of the Jeep cleans up well but the sidewalls really seem to hold on to that clay). They have over 40K miles on them now & by the close-up you can see they still have another 10K or so until they're toast.

95% of my driving is on paved roads (about 2/3 city & the rest highway) & find them excellent for DD duties as they offer similar grip & noise levels onroad to regular car tyres. Most of my offroading is sand or dirt/gravel & find they have plenty of grip & baloon out nicely when I air down to the low 20's to give a nice big footprint. My only experience with them in deep mud wasn't that good (got stuck) but I was a greenhorn & went charging into a waterhole in 4-High with them pumped up to 40psi, & I'd say they'd do a lot better in mud aired down.

One thing about the Silent Armors is that they have a stiff sidewall so they ride pretty firm at higher pressures. I've got used to running mine onroad at 38-40psi to get better mileage (makes a noticable difference of 2-3MPG) but I was in a hurry the other day when airing back up with a slow compressor & just took them up to 32psi; the ride quality felt like I was in a 70's Lincoln in comparison to bouncing along with them pumped up to near 40!

Default CT does have the Duratracs. They're 252.99 before taxes, etc. for the 265/70R17s

I think- regardless of what I get - I'm going to leave my spare as is and limp to a dealership to buy a new tire if and when it is necessary.

They sure aren't cheap. $250 is the best I've found (installed and balanced) for Duratracs so far...
I think you'll find someone running just about every tire who has legitimate problems with them. And I've read good and bad reviews on both the Duratracs and the Silent Armors. On the whole, though, i've read many more good reports than bad on the Duratracs (more people run them because of the aggressive looks). Not as many good for the Silent Armors, but to be fair, the tire isn't as aggressive in looks and not as many people are running it. Most reports, though have been good on it as well.

A lot of the contractors around Winnipeg run the SA on their work trucks. If you dont plan on doing much off-roading then its a no brainer, get the SAs. As JKlad implied, they'll be good on anything but mud.

Being in the New York area, you must have seen some snow and ice with them. How have they performed?

Just curious why you went with the 265/70/17s rather than the stock 255/75/17 size?

Has going to a 33" tire changed the ride / mileage much?
I actually just go them put on 2 weeks ago so unfortunately no snow or ice testing yet but there has been a substantial improvement in rain and water.

Going to the 265/70/17 over the 225/something/16 i had on before, my mileage only dropped a little but not enough to really notice and ride is decently smoother.

In all i highly recommend them

Must be quite a change in the looks - I imagine the new shoes would totally change the overall look of the rig!

ohh yea with the offset on the wheels and with the 265's they stick outside the fenders and gave it a lot wider more aggressive stance. hopefully a leveling kit in the future will level off that ugly rake

Along with the better looks, you've just done some wonderful things to your center of gravity too!
