should these two pieces of pipe be seperated?

I guess seperated isn't the best word because they're still clamped together. but I got my jeep back recently from dealership after they put a new torque converter in it and I have had a rattle ever since. I found it yesterday it was this clamp pictured I'm guessing (I don't really know) it's the header pipes into the Cat? Anyway it's seperated about an inch now and there's a nub on one part of the pipe that appears it should fit in a notch on the other part except it's seperated by an inch... anyway the clamp has been tightened down after soaking it in PB blaster... so the rattle is gone...

yea it should be pushed together. You will need to push it from the back as the Y-pipe should not move towards the back. The exhaust is rubber mounted from the Ypipe back so should move towards the front.

Thank you. Can it wait until my next service in 4500 miles? Any negative side effects of leaving it as is? EDIT: I'm a dummy... I tried to move the Y pipe... I'll get a wratching #15 wrench and try again... I had one, that foo must have grown legs

Here's a diagram...
2012 JEEP WRANGLER Exhaust System
It's poorly labelled but looks like the Y pipe and extension.

The danger is that carbon monoxide can be escaping if that isn't fully and completely sealed. That, clear, oderless gas can work its way into the passenger compartment, resulting in sleepiness and headaches (at first), and eventually death. If you're not absolutely certain that you have any possible leaking contained, you might try one of these as a temporary fix until you can get it properly repaired ...
