Shifter boot assembly came apart. WTH?
Like the title says...
The shifter boot assembly just came apart.
No prior signs of an issue.
ONLY thing I can think of, is....
A couple of days ago, I need to borrow the the cell phone usb cable I have in the jeep.
I had it looped around the boot
To take up extra slack
It snagged a little when I unwrapped it
but surely not enough to make the boot assembly come apart.
Right?
I have three pieces
Outer ring
boot
Inner ring
I don't see any retaining "parts" that would hold the three together
I see what appear to be plastic retaining welds
But I don't think they were intact
I suspect they had been separated sometime prior (used jeep)
And then it was all just glued back together.
Then it seems the glue finally gave out.
Does my theory hold water?
Also at this point...
am I ok to just glue it down agan?
Is it a inexpensive part?
In case OCD gets the best of me
