You don't need to push the clutch in to shift the transfer case into 4hi or back to 2lo. Just ease up on the gas and move the shifter lever.

I had a TJ with this feature and it was the first Jeep I'd had that you could do so. Hmmmm, no, I take that back, I think my last XJ had the same thing, but it's been a while and I don't remember, but I think it did.

Never had any issue for shifting from 2wd to 4hi, although I did make the mistake of thinking in 4low you could shift on the fly in the same maner at about 10 kph.
I know not to make that mistake again unless I want to hear them horrible grinding noises again (in front of a crowd of course).

I've had a 92 YJ a 2000 TJ and now the 07 JK... all of which i have shifted in and out of four wheel hi on the freeway... i usually slow down to 55, put the clutch down shift to four wheel hi or back to two wheel hi and let the clutch up, i don't think the clutch is necessary, but i've only ever driven sticks so its naturally for me to clutch before shifting anything.. haha... anyway, its shifts smooth as silk at all speeds.... even above 55 mph as i know i've done that too

Yeah, shift ont he fly is not new. I have shifted 50's CJ's on the fly. With my older jeeps, I just leave the hubs locked if I think I will need 4wd, shift in and out as needed (which is every day int he winter).
