Default Rotate in spare?

quick opinion question. do you rotate in the spare in your regular tire rotation schedule? i've done both on vehicles, but this is my first vehicle with the spare rear mounted and visible. just want people thoughts on it.

Yes. You'll get 20% more mileage out of a set of tires, and at the end of the sets life, you'd need to replace the spare anyway. Even if you don't use it, you'll need to replace it as it will deteriorate with exposure anyway. It may look fine cosmetically, but the carcass deteriorates with time and exposure to the elements and pollution.

There should be an illustration in your owners manual, at least there is in my Chevy manuals, even shows how to do it on my dually. Here's how my little Blazer is: (Sorry, no picture)

Driver side front goes to spare location
Spare goes to passengerside rear
Passenger side rear goes to Passenger side front
Passenger side front goes to Driver side rear

I've always rotated in my spare. Here in Phoenix your spare would dry rot by the time you need a new set anyways. I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles with a pattern that's sometimes called "cross-rotation." The front tires will be moved to the opposite sides of the rear, right-front to left-rear and left-front to right-rear, and the rears moved straight forward. To rotate in the spare I replace the driver rear with the spare every time, (so the passenger front goes to spare and spare goes to driver rear). Understand:confused:

Surely the owner's manual must show how Jeep says to do it. I know we are mostly men here, but would someone please look in the instruction manual and find out

bump....

Going in for my 6K oil change and first tire rotation tomorrow... I assume if you want to rotate the spare tire as well you need to rotate more often? Or is every 6K reasonable?

I wanted to get a little more feedback from the forum to see what other say on this topic (who rotates the spare and why). Thanks!
