Default Rear Dana 44 Axle Shaft Removal

Anyone here remove their axle shaft from their rear Dana 44?

After a few searches can't seem to find any write ups or the like.

I understand how to do most of it, and will figure out the rest as I go along, but haven't done a dana44 before and just want to prepare as much as I can before hand. Like, are the bearings and seals pressed on the shaft? And how many quarts of gear oil does the 44 take...etc...

hey Mik,

you can be pretty dense sometimes. It's pretty straightforward process.

You can find out how to remove the axle shaft here

and how to replace the bearings and seal on Stu's awesome site here

But, can't sayi found a cool step-by-step for a Jeep JK. Maybe you should make one?

It's OK to talk to yourself but answering yourself is just crazy!

hah...i just did it for a laugh. And if this thread ever comes up for someone in a search. I expected more on this topic JK specific considering how often I hear flanges bending on the 44's on JK's.

I'm in Cornwall, eastern Ontario.

I can tell you from recent personal experience rent an axle puller from your local auto parts store it will turn a frustrating job into a simple one . At least in my case it did, sledge hammer didn't budge it an inch axle puller had it out in 3 slides.

daphuq...i could use some voice right about now...

Why didn't anyone tell me removing the shaft would be such a hooor...

I got my two buddies who are 220lbs+ and myself tug and yank on the axle shaft with no avail. We were literally sliding the JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED rear end while on jackstands. ..

I have the 4 bolts from the retainer off and everything else needing to slide out he shaft..but she's beeing a pain....

Anyone know any tricks? Jeep is in my garage...don't want to put it all back together to drive it out to use a tractor to pull the shaft out....short off bolting something to floor for leverage...not sure how to pull the shaft out lol don't especially want to take apart the ebrake assembly apart to hammer out either,.,...

fck ...im a bit drunk...buddies also showed up with a case of beer...
