Rear brakes already worn out...
#21
I had my brakes go out on a Suburban at 11,000 once. The dealer claimed we brake too hard etc. When I squawked a little they covered them under warranty. The next set lasted 25,000 or so miles. I think they just put crap on at the factory to save pennies. Sort of like the ink cartridge that comes with your printer.

With rear pads wearing out quickly, look at the emergency brake. Those will hang up and wear the pads very quickly. We have three 08's in our neighbor hood and all have over 15,000 miles and no problems.
The cable to the E brake could be misadjusted if just the rear are wearing out.
With the fronts wearing out, oversize tires can create that problem along with hard wheeling.
Good luck getting dealer to replace under warranty. That is like getting a clutch disk replaced under warranty as that is considered driver abuse!

My front tires are stock 32" SR-A's
And dealer will replace them, just like they replaced my WHOLE clutch assembly at 6000miles. You just got to know how to talk to them. A little BBB scare helps sometimes.

My Jeep is a feb 07 build jeep. I will look my pads over so see how they are wearing. Wonder if they switchd pads and were using soft pads. Not sure if there is a trend here or just too many different uses and driving styles. Even with hard street driving pads shoiuld last many miles. I just changed pads on a friends car that had over 60K miles and they were mostly gone but still had not worn down completly to the metal squeel indicator.
8k miles is crazy.

Brakes gone as well @ 36K
I have my JK for 11 months now and I have 36K miles. I installed wheel spacers last weekend and this Friday I started hearing a clunking noise from all four wheels. I think it’s the bearing but I noticed that all four of my breaks are GONE! On all my previous cars the brakes would go bad around 50K. Out of the 36K miles maybe 6k are side road and the rest is highway so I am really surprised. Is it the weight of the Jeep or bad parts? Next weekend I am installing new rotors and Bendix brakes but I suspect the bearings might be bad as well…will advise

The rears definitely wear out on the JK far more quickly then the front. The theory is that it has something to do with the ESP engaging. I had started a poll on this a while ago... might be interesting to get some more responses...

I think the pads from the factory are a cheap cost savings version. I had this happen on other vehicles where the factory pads went early and subsequent pairs lasted 2 1/2 times as long.
Sort of like those trial ink cartridges that come with a new printer.
