Default Question to all JK owners....Help needed

Question I've had my JK for about 6 months and I'm now starting some modifications to it.. but before I do I need all your help. Question is does anyones' Jk make a ticking noise for around 5-10 seconds on a really cold morning\on a really cold start? I've been back and forth with Jeep and they've replaced my lifters and changed oil and filter to Jeep specs. Jeep has now said that according to chrysler this sound is a "normal operating sound" and there is no worry about it. It doesn't happen until an extremely cold night and a cold start but it just doesn't sit well with me..... any comments would help out alot!! thanks from the new guy

We had some really cold mornings in GA this year (in the teens) .. and mine would tick for a couple of seconds at startup ... Other than that ... 24K miles and no tick at startup.

Mine did that when I was using Motorcraft Oil Filters. Switched to Mopar oil filters and the noise went away. Could be an issue with bad anti-drainback valves? Another thing I'd read somewhere on here had to do with something being loose at/around the manifold that was causing a similar ticking noise.

What oil are you running? I ask because the ticking is your lifters not getting oil. NO oil at ANY temperature gives enough protection at start up. If you are running a 5w oil, I suggest switching to a 0w oil like 0w-20 or 0w-30. It also wouldn't hurt to put a good filter on there like a WIX or the highly regarded motorcraft. Amsoil makes a good filter also. These have good anti-drainback valves that keep oil in the valvetrain when not running. Go with a 0w oil and filter and your jeep ticking should get better. My ranger has 130,000 and ticks all the time do to wear. Good luck, and yes my wrangler does this on sub-zero mornings for a few seconds only.
