^^^ And that's exactly where I stand. 3 cars, 2 of them toys. The JK is my weekend up in the mountains checking out the old Gold Mine sites is a blast. My daily driver is Kia Forte Koup. 40 MPG and no problems in the last 51K miles. If I could only afford 1 vehicle, and needed the high gas mileage, and high dependability, the Wrangler would not be my first choice. I knew what I was getting into, and I accepted that. With jeeps history why would I think any other way about it? I chose the Red pill.

Hell we do this all the time in the racing world and pay big bucks to have it done. Actually kinda looking forward to it. No point in getting excited over something you have NO control over.
Amen.

Chrysler admitted they'll fix the ticking heads.

Obviously they won't say that engineering was the issue, that's like shooting down 50% of their cars. That Penta is in every other car.

They're still a business and don't want to cause a huge backlash that spills over into every other car they make.

They made a mistake. They're trying to own up to it without admitting full fault. After bankruptcy I highly doubt that Chrysler knowingly intended to have a design flaw in their engines. And they have to sidestep this while still keeping their Wrangler population happy. I'm confident that the AB heads will likely be a good fix. They probably engineered the hell out of that head. This is their new flagship engine, they can't ruin their reputation.

Advice: try to get that AB head in your jk12 asap.

Cheers!

How can you tell if your JK12 engine has an AA or AB head?

Thats the question of the hour...but Chrysler said that the new head has been introduced in builds from early July and ongoing....but no one seems to know where to find the serial number of the part on the actual head...most seemed to have found it on their work order after having it replaced.

If someone knows where to find that serial number, I'm sure a boatload of people would be grateful.

Are JK12 engine AA heads engineered and designed poorly or are some few just poorly manufactured?

Good chance that you can't tell unless you remove the valve covers and intake manifold.

Ive read somewhere that a plant in Mexico had been shut down because of poor quality manufacturing for the engines. The head of Chrysler Mexico was fired because of this and the manufacturing was moved back to the US.

As for the engineering, I'm no mechanic, a very far cry from that.
But I believe it had something to do with evacuating hot gases from the heads. Most new aluminum engines evacuate from multiple channels. The pentastar evacuates from a single channel. Over heating can occur and might warp the metal.

Now please don't quote me on this because I've not verified if this was an exact Chrysler statement or whatnot.

But if you google Pentastar on their news tab, you should find at least 6 news stories published on August 15th - yesterday - specifying the issues detected, chrysler's statement and possible causes.

Read it, you'll find more details.

Edit never mind... Sounds like the above post might explain it.

When inquired about the problem with the Pentastar*V6's
*cylinder head, Chrysler's executives declined to describe in detail as to the cause of the recent failures. Some have pondered the possibility of the Pentastar V6's unique exhaust manifold, which channels all of the hot exhaust gasses through one outlet within the aluminum cylinder head. Most other modern engines have multiple outlets to channel hot exhaust gases to prevent significant heat build-up, which could lead to overheated and warped components.

Hmm.. I would love to see a picture of the Cylinder head itself. (top and bottom) Anyone ever seen a picture or a head itself?
