possible problems with some 3.6 pentastar engines

This thread is going to get closed from the Troll-induced ripples.
Here is a definition of Troll as a Public Service Announcement.
troll
1a. Noun
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.
1b. Noun
A member of an internet forum who continually harangues and harasses others. Someone with nothing worthwhile to add to a certain conversation, but rather continually threadjacks or changes the subject, as well as thinks every member of the forum is talking about them and only them. Trolls often go by multiple names to circumvent getting banned.

This was posted up today.
Chrysler Fixes Pentastar Engines
Another article
I love how they say "the problem is caused by a particular fuel and driving conditions."
Still not owning up to the fact it is a "design flaw."
If a service advisor tried to tell me that, I'd go nuts.
So basically what you are telling me is that by putting in gasoline (aka the recommended fuel) and driving it (aka its intended purpose) that this causes the problem.

So let me see if I have your story straight...
On 08-04-2012, 03:25 PM you posted this
And just 3 days later you post this... 08-07-2012, 10:37 PM
And just another 4 more days... 08-11-2012, 05:48 PM
You know I call B.S.!!! on your part. 11 days ago you had no tick but admit that you are "paranoid". Somewhere over the course of 3 days, you've supposedly developed a tick took it to a dealer, and they couldn't hear this tick that probably doesn't exist, and you get all bent out of shape for nothing. and then 4 days later you've "Thrown in the towel." With as much time as you've spent on here in the last week bitching about anything and everything about the last 6 Chrysler cars you've owned, where did you find the time to have gone through 3 shitty dealers? You are the true definition of a troll. I don't even believe you even own a 2012 JK at this point. I think you are a Toyota JK owner on here starting crap. And if you really do have a 2012 JK with a tick, I'm going to just have to call that carma.

This entire website needs to be closed. I mean what a bunch of freaking babies.
From the naked post being deleted then now the threat of this post.
The guy who works at the dealer who got banned from the website that had the YouTube video showing the new 2013 Jeep top
Let it be and let it run.
It's not our fault some people have severe inconsistencies with their stories.

well, here is my story.
About a 2 weeks ago I was checking my fluids and heard a very slight metal on metal ticking from the left (Drivers) side of the engine bay. Knowing my jeep and its sounds pretty well I decided to keep an eye, or rather an ear, on it. Over the last 2 weeks the sound has gotten louder but not horrible yet. No CEL, no misfire, but mileage has decreased( I don't rely on the MPG read out, I do the math every time i fill up), I was averaging between 18.5 and 20 depending on city:highway ratio. Now I'm lucky to get 16.5.
Yesterday I decided to find out if others had this "ticking" and found this thread.
I took my jeep to the nearest dealer, we will call them "Dealer B" (about 6 miles) for them to check it out. they verified that the "ticking" was there and said it was indeed excessive, they asked to see my last oil change receipt which was from the dealer I bought the jeep from ("Dealer A"). low and behold Dealer A put the wrong weight oil in ( 5W20 instead of 5W30 which Chrysler recommends). They suggested that I take it back to Dealer A and have them correct it.
When I got to Dealer A, I showed them what had transpired and they apologized and agreed to fix it. Then i mentioned the ticking sound and the service writer said that they were aware of the head issues with the 3.6 and that they do a lot of replacements. At that point I decided to sit down with the service manager to have a talk.
Now this is the important part everyone:
The service manager (Bryan) told me that they do on average, one a week!
Bryan said they don't get many Wranglers in because the 3.6 is so new in them but they get a lot of vans and patriots with the problem. He proceeds to tell me that they have done over 100 head replacements, drivers side on the 3.6 only, and that they have a mechanic that that is all he does. He also said that he doesn't think that the oil change would make the sound go away and that they usually don't start the repair/replace process until it throws a code or starts misfiring.
We talked a little more ( I can be very persuasive ) and I now have an appointment for next week to drop the jeep off and pick up my rental car(no charge). They are going to try to diagnose the "Ticking" sound, find an air leak in the cab causing a whistle at highway speeds, and go from there.

I understand. No one wants salt in the wound, hearing "I told you so" from people, or to have their vehicle and lifestyle trashed. Who wouldn't rather have the 3.6 instead of the 3.8 *IF* this issue is resolved? But I'm married to the 3.8 unless the equity fairy sprinkles pixie dust on my resale value. Good show on getting the Google Docs together. We definitely need more data and less drama.
FWIW you might want to post about your spreadsheet on other forums. One in particular has a thread on this issue that dwarfs this one. I wish the forum owners of all the major Wrangler forums could team up on occasion with a Sticky and allow cross-posting in that thread for just such purposes, giving an even larger voice to Jeep owners.

Granted I am still under 1000 miles on my 2012, but the best I have seen so far is 15.7 while driving in the Eco range at all times with mixed city/highway driving. This is pretty crappy mileage if you ask me, especially when people are consistently reporting 19-22 mpg. I have a tick upon startup on my motor but quite honestly I believe that to be a characteristic of both Chrysler motors (in my experience) and Variable Valve Timing.
