What is your build date?

I have not read through this entire thread, but have been keeping up with the Pentastar issue since I have a '12 JK with a Sept. 2011 build date and 9100 miles. No tick as of yet.

I don't know if this info has already been posted but found this on the allpar forums. This is from a Chrysler dealer or S/M written in late July:

"Looks like there is a new problem with the new head. The Wrangler head is still on restriction and you have to call STAR to get the ok to repair it.I called on one this morning and got the ok to order one(that we cant for another 2 months because of the 1 every 7 days rule) and STAR said to check the cam bore because they have had problems with cams locking up in the new head. STAR said it was because the were so far behind on the heads that they were rushing and boring the cam journals. We still have cars here from 2 months ago waiting to get heads and we cant even order any more for another 2 months. So if someone was to come in today their car would be here for about 3 months before it was fixed"

Also read on the allpar forum that they are putting most of the new heads into production engines but they need 450 heads/week for vehicles already sold (most of that need is for this issue)

This is going to be a mess for Chrysler if they can't get ahead of it.

Problems with the "new" head...not good! Pardon my ignorance, but what is "boring the cam journals"?

I have 2k on mine, still OK. Knock on wood.

Default And the tick goes on.....

Took my '12 (8/11 build, 13K miles) to the second dealer for the second time. This clown said that he knows nothing about ticking issues on the 3.6. I told him his service tech told me a month ago that Chrysler was aware but that all repairs were on hold until they figure out a course of action. I also told him that the issue was all over the forums. He said he doesn't hold any stock in the forums. I may call his general manager and tell him to look for a new employee! I already had a tech at another dealership tell me there was a definite tick. The service manager there wanted nothing to do with it. Someone should tell Chrysler that they need to give all of their dealerships the same lie to tell so they don't come off sounding like a bunch of fricking idiots.

You know it's a damn shame we can't get these dealers names and service people names and service managers name at these dealers that are acting clueless, idiots, trying to hide this issue like it doesn't exist and either class action them or go to chrysler with it. This it total crap and these people don't deserve to have a job and or the dealers to have the luxury of staying in business.

I'm sorry but I'm fed up with all of this.

I'm fortunate enough not to have a bad tick yet. However like mentioned before my extra noise comes and goes with no CEL. I am hoping to buy enough time so this major back order will get back to normal. Heck by then maybe they will have another revision of the head.

Got my 2012 back today after the transplant. Invoice shows the AB head was used. No drama to far. Install took 1.5 days after about 4 wks waiting for the part.

Ok, so mine has been at the dealer since 7/10. Fixed once with a bad replacement head which caused 2 of my cams to go also. They finished fixing it for the second time today and the CEL is on with a sensor problem on the original passenger side head that didnt have a problem to tart with. They checked all wiring and replaced sensors. No luck. Jeep won't downshift unless at a complete stop. Said I might need a brand new computer now. This totally sucks. It's been over a month now and I still don't have my Jeep. Going to the 4WD Hardware 4x4 and Jeep Fest in Orlando tomorrow and I will be driving the Expedition instead of my Jeep. Just not right at all.

Update:

My head is in after a 2 week wait. Thought it would have been longer considering the back order, probably sent me an AA original defective head. Appt for Head replacement on Monday, we shall see.

Still curious if there are any pictures, diagrams, or anything showing the difference in the heads. I see a lot of speculation to exactly whats different but I've yet to see any real information.
