Update:

Just rolled over 12000 miles and all seems well so far nearly 2 months after the head replacement on left side, and as mentioned the right side is noisier then the left; I'm averaging about 18.5-19 MPG. around town vs. 17-17.5 before the head replacement.

Default Dealer Visit 1

Just got back from Dealer X. I was told the tick was a "normal" noise for the V6, I refused to accept that. Long and the short of it is I'm talking to the Service Manager on Monday. So far nothing is getting replaced.

CS VEHICLE HAS TICKING SOUND FROM ENGINE AREA ON LEFT SIDE
ONLY NOTED NORMAL NOISE ASSOCIATED WITH THE 3.6L ENGINE.
OIL LEVEL AND CONDITIONS ARE OK
ADVISED CUSTOMER THAT SERVICE MANAGER WOULD CALL HIM ON MONDAY

Here's a scan of my repair order: http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/...Dales/Scan.png

You know it's gonna be an uphill battle when they use the "N" word...Normal.

Its not normal. Have them start any jeep they have on the lot. There is valve train clatter. Then the ticking sound. It is clearly obvious, especially if are comfortable with the sound of your motor.

I looked up a ton of stuff about it and several videos so I knew what it sounded like. There is no if and or but, when you hear it its clear. Some people reported their power and gas mileage completely crapped out too.

Same story from the dealership I went to. My JK was in their shop for 3 days and (allegedly) they ran a bunch o different tests for which I was told that the ticking noise in my Wrangler was normal. When I questioned if we could start up another 2012 Wrangler to compare, I was told that we could start up 3 of them and they would all sound different from each other. BS. I should've made them start up 3 of them! I dont have a CEL, so not sure if I should take it to another dealership, or just drive it around. Anyone have any success stories of getting a head replaced without having thrown a CEL?

I think someone needs to start (and they probably will) a class action lawsuit because Jeep is now selling known defective vehicles. They know they cars they are selling in all probablity are going to fail thus 20,000 backorder

I agree and I would join it. Does anyone have any contacts or knowledge about this type of law?

i would be damned if i would let them tear my engine down multiple times as they have done some that have posted here , asking for trouble later as i guarantee except for the heads nothing gets torqued properly and most fasteners are reused instead of replaced , thTs bs . i would rAise holy hell and demand they buy it back and buy one later after the bugs are out or buy a 2011 , also its sooooo. razy to replace bad heada with the same part number and then have to replace it again later . i was really defending jeep early on but now not so much . they are not handling this properly imo

couldnt agree more mine isnt even ticking but not like I can enjoy it since I m so paranoid and always listening thought I might have heard the tick yesterday 3100 miles but am I paranoid? Crazy crazy crazy that dealers are acting like well we dont know we havent heard anything blah blah blah they have a computer all connected up with a database and searchable by keywords just like this forum. Thats supposedly how they fix leaks is see basically what worked for someone else somewhere across the country at another dealer check the computer. I was told that by the Service Manager at Myrtle beach Chrysler Jeep in 2009.

If anyone in the Carolinas want to sue I ll throw in on the retainer

Yeh, so I'm fine with the tick for now. It makes it sound more like a Jeep anyway. I miss my old 4.0L Inline 6. No check engine light, dealer says its ok. Family seems fine with it. Lets move on.
