Had the service manager take a quick listen to it before I left. He started down the line that the Fuel Injectors do make some noise, but before I could a word in he admitted that the "tic" was more than Injectors. He said that he has seen a dozen or so 3.6L come in that required head replacements, most of which were Grand Cherokees. He also confirmed that the Cylinder Heads are on national back order (> 1 month) and are restricted. So I left my Jeep there with high hopes the right thing was going to be done seeing that the dealership is aware of the problems these 3.6L are having.

Got a call today and they are replacing all the lifters and I'll have my Jeep back later this week. After reading many posts this solution has not resolved the "tic", but it seems to be standard protocol and I'll give them a chance. At least they aren't reflashing the computer and saying it's fixed...
Let them replace the lifters. It might fix your issue (doubtful but trying to be kinda optmistic). Your service advisor as well as the tech working on your rig will see it won't help with the tick and will most likely, get with star and get your head ordered.

I hate this for you....I really do! On the upside, at least you didn't have to go through all the "This Tick is normal" BS Like myself and so many had too. Hang in there man and keep us posted!

Welcome to the Forum too!! This is a great place for support and knowledge!!

My service guy didn't even try to give me the Jeep back, finished the lifter job and called to tell me they were ordering the head.

I hope that the rumors about the tick coming back after the head replacement are unfounded.

Well I am glad they didn't send you home saying "It is fixed"! Hopefully you will get your head in soon and they can get you taken care of quickly!

I am at 2K miles since head replacement and I don't have any ticking. Hoping the ticking doesn't come back either! I sure wouldn't want to go through another head replacement fiasco like I did the last time. Once was enough for me!!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Got mine back last week. Had a pulley replaced under warranty which was squealing but the tick is still there. When I asked about it they said that "some of them tick all the time" and it's not anything their mechanics are worried about. I was told I was covered with the warranty and drive it until it gets worse or it throws a code.

Sorry but this "tic" is it constant ? ... Mine does it maybe the first 2 seconds of startup then goes away ????? Getting 20mpg with 285 duratracs ! I would imagine if I had this head issue I would be able to tell ?

It's generally only a problem if it is constant. Not unusual to hear it at startup for a couple seconds as oil pressure builds up.
