This issue can and had made people very touchy about this subject. 5 weeks without my Jeep SUCKED waiting to get my head replaced not to mention over a month at different dealerships trying to diagnose and listening to their "This is normal" crap. No one likes to have a vehicle that is new and needs what I call "Major engine work" on a vehicle they just purchased.

I have found that all the Jeep owners on here are Like police officers are to one another. They are very protective of one other. Nice to know that someone looks out for you even though they may not know you personally.

Thanks to all who contribute and offer up advice and personal experiences to others!

Question why doesn't the dealer let you drive it while your waiting for the part to come in. It doesn't seem like its something that will cause the motor to freeze up with the miles that would be put on it waiting for the part to come in.

After seeing this thread and watching the vids I now know for sure that my 12 with just over 6000 mi is making the tapping sound too. Not as loud as it seems in the vids but the passenger side purrs like a cat and the drivers side has the tapping. Build date 12/11.

Time for a trip to the dealer but I'll be armed with this thread in case they try to give me the it's normal bs.

traded in my 2010 JKUR for a 2012. My old 3.8 burned oil, keeping my fingers crossed. Picked up yesterday 100miles no tick yet

Anybody know which dealer in the orange county california area that is "cooperating" with this fix without giving a hard time. With my 07 I mainly went to don a Vee or HB for services. But I don't want to have to try a bunch of dealers to get it handled.

The dealership told me they had replaced heads on other 3.6's (Other vehicles mind you) that had "Dropped Valves" when the ticking was bad enough. So, like in my case, they put me in a rental instead of having a bigger problem to deal with. When they told me about the dropped valves issues, I about crapped! I was saying to them, "How is the tested, tried and true Pentastar motor having so many problems across the board and 99% of the issues are with the heads"?

Definately A HUGE QC issue. I would hate to think it is design or engineering flaw.

Hey all, so I've had my '12 rubicon for a few months now and I've heard the ticking, only at low speeds. It sounds like its coming from the driver's side front wheel. Not sure if this is from this "tick" that's mentioned on here or if it's something else. I took it to the jeep local jeep service center and they didn't hear anything. Anyone have some advice for me? Thanks for the help!

Do you know exactly what the "Dropped Valves" problem is? A friend who owns a repair shop has been replacing lifters for the Chrysler 5.7 V8. These are engines with 80k miles or so where the rocker arm actually falls out of position between the cam and the lifter and drops down into the head. This renders that specific valve useless. I believe it uses the same valve train design as the Pentastar.

The hemi and Pentastar do not share the same head design. They are completely different in that the hemi uses pushrods.
