"Customer states vehicle makes loud ticking noise : check and advise

Verified customer concern and found tick on drivers side. Isolated noise under valve cover and contacted Star center and was advised to remove valve cover and inspect lifters.

Removed intake, valve cover and camshafts. Found spongy lifter and others were LOOSE in the bore.

Measured bore and submitted data to Chysler and was advised to replace head and lifter.

Opted to replace ALL lifters in case of unidentified failure.

Replaced head, lifters and re-installed all removed components.

Test drove and no tick was heard. Vehicle drove good"

I like the fact the mechanic opted to replace ALL the lifters and not just one!
Hopefully this little bit of information will help others if and when they have theirs worked on for reference.

All is still well with mine except a slight oil burning smell I can't find. Have degreased and degreased till I am blue in the face. Everything is dry but can't figure out where the burning oil smell is coming from, nor can the dealership.
Someone else on the Forum said that they had the same problem with burn oil smell. It turned out to be from when the dealer did an oil change and they got oil on the foam that is glued to the underside of the plastic engine cover (with the JEEP logo on it). I think he washed it out really good with detergent and it removed the smell.
Something to look into.

thank you so much for the info. I too am in the same ticking boat. However I was wondering if you could post a PDF version of the work order as a way for "others" with the same problem, to easly download and present to our service managers as proof of what is happeing to our Jeeps. Thank you in advance....

I was told by my dealer a head replacement includes a new assembly which everything is new except your cams are reused. This includes all valves, valve springs, valve guides, valve seals, cam followers, rocker arms, and lifters. Which means your mechanic didn't go out of his way.

Just out of curiousity...how loud is the ticking? I hear a very small amount when I'm at the bank drive up window. Sounds more like exhaust ticking. I have a 2012 Rubicon built November 21, 2011. Would like to know what to listen for....
