Default plastic bumpers -gripe-

ok, i know... they are crap.

earlier this week after dragging a Tj out of a hole the size of an F-350, the front of the Rubi ended up slipping on an incline (with roots) causing the corner of the front bumper to scrub a tree. I never heard it... I never felt it... I didnt even think I was that close to the tree!

negative results for the Rubi are a caved in corner on the "hi-teck" plastic bumper. I guess the tree-huggers are happy, because there wasnt a mark on the tree.

so, until I have both money for a new bumper and the support of the wife , I get to drive around with a caved in bumper.

well... I guess I'll keep window-shopping for a good bumper.

b1pig, others have reported that a judicious application of heat (hair dryer, etc.) has solved similar problems. This plastic apparently returns to it's previous shape. Don't know how bad yours is, but it my be worth a try. BTW, if you come up with a good way of getting your wife to let you buy new bumpers, let me know................working on the same thing with my wife.

Try the heat. If you have no success, make it a stubby!

I vote to chop it. I did it yesterday (see link below, photo page) and love it.

Yeah, pretty much the exact same story with mine. Hit a rock and didn't even feel it. I actually would have kept going if WOLette hadn't stopped me... She was like "oops... your hitting a rock!" and I was like "really? I am? " Got out and there was the dimple, sittin' there smilin' at me.

Of course, you all know how we fixed that...

If you want a matching set, I'll trade rear bumpers with you.

I want to try the heat to fix it but just this evening my wife said, "we've gotta hurry up and get a new bumper."

Mine looks the same way after pushing a friends Explorer. Maybe it's enough for a new bumper too.

the hair dryer trick works. I just did it. Took about 15 minutes of heat and massage and it worked right out.

Default cheap plastic bumpers

When I first went to the dealer for my JK they told me the bumpers were cheap plastic (from factory). They told me this was done by the factory to bring the price down and that alot of people change them for aftermarket bumpers anyway.
