Pinion on front diff
Replaced my front DS yesterday. When I removed my front pinion flange, I noticed the pinion had a ton of play. Almost 3/4" up and down floppy donkey wang play. But when I put the flange back on everything tightened up. I'm guessing my pinion bearing is shot? Or is this normal in the D30? I never took one off to know any different.

normal once you remove the nut yes, your bearings are probably just fine....for now...how did you set bearing preload again though once you put it all back together?? Crazy tight? Hope not. You can really mess up your bearing lifespan by improperly setting load on those bearings.
With the pinion crush collar in there already more or less set as a spacer if you will, what you would really want to do is ensure contact with the crush collar plus a touch more with a lot of red locktite on that nut. really what you want to ensure is that you take up all 'play'....but just enough with just enough load.
