Once I get the jeep back i will check on the build date. Ticking was a problem before the CEL came on, but I just assumed low oil. I also noticed sluggish performance. According to my Service advisor they are replacing the the 2nd head.

Will let you know more once I get my jeep back.

No, I'm pretty sure they now have a script to follow with regard to this. They go through each step in order to get to the top of the stairs, lol.

I took it back after all the other I listed and they confirmed they'd done all they were supposed to do in order to confirm it wasn't something else, and they ordered the parts necessary to fix it. They acknowledged the problem and stated the new parts were being allocated at a rate of one per dealer per week, and there are two other Wranglers ahead of me. They are allowing me to drive the vehicle instead of leaving it with them, although they did pay for a rental for the one day I left it there to confirm the diagnosis. I'm actually glad of that as I'd rather drive it till the parts come in.

So, progress is being made, albeit slowly.

Sorry, I just sent you a PM with some of the data, but didn't include the build date of the Jeep, which was December of 2011. I don't have the build date on the engine, I'll have to check on that. I had no loss of power, but the MPG has never really been that great, and I'm not sure I noticed any decline at any particular point. Still runs great as a matter of fact, just has the tic and throws check engine codes...lol.

Thanks to all of you who have been sending me your info regarding the development of your cylinder misfires, ticks, CEL's and head replacements. Please continue to update me on your status so that I can keep the spreadsheet current. I still am getting a small influx of people with new head issues, but nothing like 4/2012 thru 7/2012.

Here's to hoping that one day the spreadsheet will be obsolete...

My MPG has never been that good either. I thought it was my driving because I was enjoying the power so much, always shifting around 3k. But, now I've been trying to shift only in the ECO mode and my MPG has only made it up to 16 once. Mostly it stays at 15.5. I don't know if I should be concerned with that. I'm running 4:10's as well, so I don't know if that changes things either.

My Altitude I bought 06/2012 has a "ticking" noise on both sides!! It only has 1600 miles on it so I haven't gone to the dealer yet. Everything I've read so far indicates the noise is only coming from the drivers side. Is it possible my "tick" could be a more severe issue or possibly something else wrong. I am new to Chrysler and Jeeps.....came over from a Ford F-150!! I don't really know anything about engines so I'm just curious.

Any idea what kind of drop in MPG might be seen when the problem occurs? I am tracking every fill up since new, so I should easily be able to tell a drop if one comes along. What I have seen so far is a gradual increase in my MPG over the first 10,000 miles. I have a quiet tick tick that I think is the injectors. My jeep build date is mid February 2012. Not sure of engine build date.

There is a certain amount of light ticking that can be considered "normal". There is some debate about that and I'm sure that those more mechanical than myself will chime in here. The noise that is considered the "Pentastar tick" is loud and on one side. The noise does start out quietly, but increases with mileage. Several JK owners with the real tick have posted videos on YouTube. You can really hear the difference. One guy posted his tick before the head replacement and then no tick after.

Wow. Awesome graph. None of the JK owners, who have claimed that a drop in their MPG accompanied the tick, provided any numbers for the decline.
