Subscribing to this thread.

After reading all the posted articles from the different news sources I didn't see anything that described what the "head problem" was in any detail. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the new built in manifold.

Gurl... I feel your pain! The dealership I use is AWESOME! They noticed how much louder the passenger side is versus the Drivers! They said drive it and maybe the passenger side head will have trouble and they can replace it with the new revised too! LOL

I haven't had a chance to talk with the tech who replaced mine to see what the revisions were. Hopefully he will be able to see a difference and give us some ideas.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Alrighty then! Dropped off my JK last Tuesday for the head replacement, and they had it ready by noon on Friday. I had to wait till Satuday to pick it up as they were going to be closed before I got off work, but it was done!

Not withstanding the P.O.S. rental car I got (it was new, but it was a Dodge Avenger, hack, hack, cough, cough, spit!). HATED that car, so it might make me just that much more appreciative of my JK, lol. It does now seem to be running smoother, I'm not sure if the rough running came on so gradual that I just wasn't aware of the difference, or what, but I am not really aware of the difference in how it was running before, and how nice and smooth it is now. Haven't really paid a lot of attention to any difference in gas milage, but it does appear to be better by a mpg or two at all speeds, so that's an improvement on the fly with no calculation done to officially confirm it.

I'm still in love with my JK, and I don't think that's gonna change anytime soon. As this is my 7th Jeep vehicle in a row, I'm pretty happy with the brand overall.

I have a 2012 Wrangler Sport S with 18K miles.

The check engine oil icon came on. The dealership had just done an oil change so it was already topped off with oil. So, they said its the valve/cylinder head issue and ordered the heads/parts to do the fix.

It is suppose to be 3 weeks before they call me back in to get the work done because the heads are backordered. So in the meantime it runs fine.

Lots of posts on here about dealerships screwing up oil changes. What do you mean by they just changed the oil prior to the light coming on. Are we talking hours later, days, weeks? So many people had to fight extremely hard to get faulty heads replaced. Yours doesn't even sound faulty and they are going to replace it right away because an oil light is on?

Okay, so I have read the whole thread and I would appreciate some insight... My door states a July '12 build which makes me assume the engine was produced and assembled prior to that date ( I would check the engine date but it is as dark as burnt steak outside and I wouldn't know where to look anyway). My morning start up tick has definitely gotten louder and my MPG's have been on an even decline (from 18.5-16) and I am a pretty modest driver. What's really weird to me is that my mpg's (on the computer) will drop 4 or 5 mpg's at idle for a short time. Is this normal? No CEL yet but the issues above have me a bit concerned.. Advise?

They did the Oil Change and I drove about 300 miles and the oil ligh came on. I was not happy since they just did the oil change 2 weeks ago so I added another quart myself and the light still wouldnt go away. So, I just took it in and had them look at why the light is on.

They said they have to order the parts to address the heads recall issue. Right around the time the light came on I did notice the car shakes a bit. Kinda like driving an old muscle car that has a big cam in it minus the noise of course. Please NOTE: Prior to these last 300ish miles I just put on my Jeep there was no rattles or shakiness felt but all of a sudden it just happened almost magically....

I sure hope the shakiness goes away after the dealership does the recall on it.

Default how many of us are getting from the dealer that the ticking is normal 2012 rubicon

I took mine in they say no code thrown its normal tick for the 3.6 2012 I don't buy this however if they wont fix it, and they say its normal . you can argue forever bout this with them . least its documented I have a tick build date nov 2011) wondering how many thousands are hearing the same from dealers they go to . mine runs fine but it def ticks left side like a timex watch ill continue to drive it seeing they tell me its normal but I cant see why they don't replace the head and be done with it . I have lifetime warrenty and still under bumpe to bumper anywayAttachment 417503

Your build date is really close to the end of the bad heads. You can tell which version of the heads you have buy the build date etched into the side of the heads. Looking at the driver side is the easiest, it's on a flat pad just below the valve cover. The heads changed with julien date 2062, for example my August build has 2162 heads.
