Default Oil Spill...Cleaned up, still smells

So about 2 months ago I changed my oil. Something I've done 100 times, but this time I wasn't paying close enough attention, and I left the old oil filter gasket in place with I added the new filter. Needless to say, there was a "small" leak and oil shot EVERYWHERE!

I of course fixed the error, added oil, and now all is good in the world except for about the next week I couldn't park in the driveway or garage, because there was still oil down in the nooks and cranes dripping from the front of the engine compartment. So I power-washed under the car, and around the fan, but didn't want to spray directly on the motor or electronics so I left that part stay. So no more oil drips, but I can still smell oil burning off even today.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell? It doesn't smoke, just smells like burning oil.

A couple cans of brake cleaner will work perfectly.

Safe to do that to the radiator? Then hose out afterwards?

U can, but don't go crazy with it.. I would use a de greaser and spray it concentrated onto the rad. Make sure everything is cool, and let it soak for a bit. Then hose it off well .

Soak it down with some simple green and slide a garden hose with sprinkler head under the Jeep. Drink a few beers and call it a day.

I did that many years ago on my Ford 289....missed removing the old filter gasket. What a mess. Needless to say, it only happened to me once.

I would just use some degreaser and low pressure water to clean it up.
