Yes. Draining through the drain plug hole is more difficult than using an oil extractor.

Granted, it's cheaper through the drain plug, but I don't waste money on cigarettes and alcohol, so I can afford the extractor.

I know that some engines have to be done this way. It's a lot less likely to drop oil in the driveway.
Do it on your neighbors driveway under the cover of darkness.....

Yes you can do it that way. If you do does the back flow still exist when you remove the oil filter? You could also drive with your feet, but why would you!

I have a pella as well, they have alot of great uses besides just oil changes...sucking out power steering pumps, master cylinders coolant over flow tanks, diffrentials so you dont have to take the cover off, small gas engine fuel tanks for the season, ect. you get the drift. but with a 4" lift a 35s there isnt an excuse not to get under my jeep now.

The first time I used it, I pulled the drain plug after to see if it got all the oil.
Not a single additional drop cam out.

I'm not worried about sediment because I do it right after shutting the engine off, after a trip. Any particals are still in suspension. Hot oil is much easier to extract.

Every once in a while I'll pull the plug and drain, just to cover all bases.
I prefer to use the oil extractor.
The one I have is the 6.5 liter version (the tall one) made by Pella.

I don't know how much they are now, but a few years ago I bought mine for around $35.

i bought a mityvac that came with 3 sizes of plastic hoses. none of them worked because they wouldn't bend to reach the oil pan. i ended up crawling underneath to change the oil. this was the first time i changed it on the JK. i had the the pan and cardboard all set up and the oil still shot out past the cardboard. next time i'll be prepared.

Thanks for the posts.
I've done oil changes before on different vehicles. I changed the jk about 4 x and every time I have a splash out that drives me nuts even with a large mat. (very difficult to get out of asphalt) I've tried various oil collecting containers and they have either splashed the oil or the container leaks by the screw on cap before I can get it to recycling.
It may be worth it to go with the oil collector.
Thanks again.
