Question Oil Change Indicator Light Question

My Jeep has a little over 2500 miles on it and the oil change indicator light just came on. That doesn''t really surprise me except for the fact that I changed the oil at 500 miles and reset it. I know they're designed from the factory to come on before 3000 miles but i reset it at 500 miles. Does it come on anyway even if you reset it? Plus, only 2500 miles? All the other ones I've seen did it pretty close to 3000 miles. I don't drive it very hard and its mainly hwy miles. I don't get it...

Other people have had early oil change lights, too. If you know it has not been enough miles, reset it again and drive on.

I'm not really worried about it. My question really is that does resetting it really do nothing? At the first oil change does it come on at the pre-determined mileage no matter what even though it was reset? Its funny in a way because I predicted this to happen.

Same thing every 21 to 2400 miles it was coming on, the dealer said there was a TSB for a reflash to correct it and guess what 2100 it was back on again so they reflashed it again I have free oil changes so every time it comes on I take it in just to irritate them.
Edit They call it an oil life indicator. My oil seems to be dieing to often

The computer keeps track of things like start-up cycles, mileage, engine load, etc., to predict when the oil needs changing. It's not strictly miles driven.
The light seems to come on at inappropriate times, though.

No way that mine could need an oil change after 2000 miles though. Its been mainly hwy miles and I don't abuse it, tow, etc. It hasn't even been offroad yet.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if it doesn't let you reset the indicator for the first interval because I know it was reset at 500 miles...
