For all you guys who are changing your own oil, doesnt that void the lifetime powertrain warranty?

i keep a log book of all maintenance performed, on what date, list the mileage and the fluid condition (if applicable). Once I fill in this info I sign my name below the entry. I figure if I ever have to deal w/ warranty I'll have paperwork to back up my at home maintenance. Also if I remember I keep my receipts for oil, filters, brakes, etc.

A manufacturer/dealer cannot mandate service be done at the dealer in order to be covered by warranty, unless the service involves a proprietary procedure that only an authorized dealer can perform. None of the required maintenance listed in the owners manual falls into that category.

As long as you can prove that you used the right oil; and you did it by the book, and you know what your doing. They cant void any thing. I can see if you put stright 40w in it, yeah you need it voided. But local dealer says I can change my own oil, as i went to school for it. Haha, i walk in ask for parts by part numbers and they get blown away. I know more about there parts then they do.

I hit my first oil change at 4114km (2556 miles)... seems a little soon, though I like to change every 5,000km with plain dino-oil. Deal at the dealer is for lifetime oil/filter changes at $20, so I'm not complaining.... even with the cheapest oil/filter at Canadian Tire it would probably be more expensive to do it myself.

It must have something to do with the start/stops. Mine did not come on till I hit 5750 miles. I was actually waiting. We put the first 2500 miles on the freeway.
